Senator Manny Pacquiao isn’t pushing hard for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, even if some of his major boxing fights were aired by the network in the past.
In a radio interview Saturday (December 7), Pacquiao said ABS-CBN’s bid for franchise renewal needs further study.
“Aaralin nating mabuti ‘yan kasi marami ring ikukunsidera na mawawalan ng trabaho. So pag-aralan nating mabuti,” he said.
“Kung kailangang ipasara, isara. Kung ‘di naman nararapat, we can suggest to the President,” Pacquiao added.
The senator said there’s a chance that ABS-CBN’s franchise may not renewed if it is found to have committed a violation of its permit to operate.
“Pwede nating ikunsidera dahil unang-una, kung may ginawa ang [ABS-CBN] na ‘di nararapat, eh ‘di ipasara. Pero ikunsidera rin ang libo-libong taong mawawalan ng trabaho,” Pacquiao said.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto has filed a bill renewing ABS-CBN’s franchise, which is set to expire in March next year.
However, the Senate cannot tackle it until the House of Representatives passes a similar bill on third and final reading.
President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly threatened the network that its franchise will not be renewed.
