President Rodrigo Duterte boasted that his administration does not have any problems with money.
Duterte said the government’s problem was how billions of pesos in state funds go to waste or plundered by government officials.
“Alam mo sa totoo lang, itong gobyernong ‘to, may pera tayo. Ayaw lang sabihin ni (Finance) Secretary (Sonny) Dominguez kung magkano. Pero kung sabi mo lang pera kasing haba ng runway nito, meron tayo. May pera tayo,” said Duterte in a speech.
“Ang problema ‘pag ang pera hindi nagagamit sa wastong paraan. That has always been the problem of the Philippines and it has kept us down for so many years,” he added.
His advice to government officials to avoid it or moderate their greed “Let’s try to coast along. At least at — during my time, kindly avoid corruption. ‘Yang pino lang. Huwag ‘yung (garapal). Talagang hindi ako… I have a short — the shortest fuse sa ‘yung corruption,” said Duterte.
“Kaya that is why I tiptoe. I tiptoe in the path of the presidency. You know why? Kasi ako ‘pag bumira ng corrupt talagang bibirahin kita and I will humiliate and I will shame you. And I will not give you that pleasure of getting back at me,” he added.
