All 15 magistrates of the Supreme Court (SC) have been asked to disclose their respective Statement of Assets, LIabilities and Networth (SALN) to the public.
The PinoyAksyon for Governance and the Environment (PinoyAksyon) made the call as part of efforts to push for transparency and accountability in government.
PinoyAksyon convenor BenCyrus Ellorin said in his statement that “transparency and accountability are vital pillars of good governance.”
Ellorin said a letter has already been sent to SC Clerk of Court Felipa Anama requesting the release of the SALNs of SC Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Noel Tijam, Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Francis Jardeleza as well as Administrator Jose Midas Marquez.
PinoyAksyon sought copies of their SALNs for the last 10 years or starting from the period that they were appointed associate justices.
“The freedom of information on the other hand empowers the public to participate in efforts to make government officials transparent and accountable,” read the letter.
“We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will grant our request in light of the value of transparency in government,” it added.
