DAVAO CITY – Administration senatorial candidate and incumbent Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos has been reportedly rooting for a ‘single vote’ victory in the so-called Solid North bailiwick this coming May 13 elections.

Multiple sources told Politiko that the Ilocos Norte Governor has been courting local and provincial chief executives in the northern part of the country for her to be their lone senatorial candidate in the upcoming midterm polls next month.

Marcos, is reportedly not contented with the recent pre-election surveys, wherein she was ranked between 9th to 15th based on the data gathered last March by various pollsters despite being endorsed both by the ruling administration party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) and the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

One of the sources stressed that the daughter of former President Ferdinand Marcos has been wooing officials from the Solid North territory for her to be their only senate bet next month, believing that it will boost her chances more to be part of the winning circle.

Solid North refers to the strong electoral support of northern provinces in the country, particularly those of Ilocandia, to the family of the late strongman.

Through the ‘single vote’ scheme, Marcos is requesting all local and provincial officials in both Regions 1 and 2 to root only for her as their lone senatorial candidate, setting aside other senate bets.

Since 2016, the number of registered voters in the Solid North territory is close to 4.9 million.

Some observers believed that the Ilocos Norte Governor will have the upper hand in the senatorial race if majority voters up north will only root for one candidate, and that’s her.
