Last hurrah! 94-year old Enrile eyes Senate comeback in 2019 polls

By John Carlo Cahinhinan

In a surprise move, former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile is expected to make a last-minute filing of candidacy for senator.

Multiple sources told Politiko that the 94-year old former Senate President will make another try in the political arena in next year’s elections under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

Enrile will most likely file his certificate of candidacy (COC) either on August 16 or 17, the sources said.

The former Senate leader is currently out on bail since 2015 due to a pending plunder trial in connection with his alleged participation in the multi-billion pork barrel scam.

Enrile has been accused of amassing kickbacks worth P172.8 million from 2004 to 2010 by channeling his Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF) allocations to bogus non-government organizations staged by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind.
