Twitterverse is raging mad after top police official alleged broke quarantine rules to celebrate his birthday.
Several netizens ventured fury towards NCRPO chief Gen. Debold Sinas for having a birthday salubong complete with guests, food and party band while the enhanced community quarantine is in effect in Metro Manila. The birthday gathering has been defended by no less than the Philippine National Police chief Archie Gamboa. The top cop said there was nothing wrong with the incident.
But netizens denounced the government’s alleged double standard or selective justice towards public servants who break quarantine rules. The online fury catapulted the words “law is law” to the top of the trending topics on Twitter on May 13.
“The law isn’t the law when it’s only applied to a select few. Selective justice is injustice,” television host Gretchen Ho tweeted.
@iamrigzp tweeted: “Law is law is only applicable for the poor and the marginalized our justice system cannot even lay a finger to the rich and and powerful. they can blatantly lie and get away with ease ♂️”
“What a clown. Double standards much? Why single out one person? If you’re so keen in enforcing the law, then no one should be above it,” @onlytrademark tweeted.
The Professional Heckler gave a sarcastic birthday greeting to the NCRPO chief. “Happy birthday to the NCRPO chief! You guys are role models indeed! Dura lex sed lexchon! Party! Party!” @hecklerforever8 tweeted.
Some netizens questioned the government for picking on the small man that violate the rules but let officials get away with their offenses.
“The audacity to preach, ‘law is law !!!’ when a regular citizen gets arrested or punished but when a person in power breaks the law u all suddenly shut up lol,” @tur0nz tweeted.
“Wag nyo kaming ma ‘Law is Law’ when you can’t even make mocha uson and koko pimentel accountable for their ECQ violations!! Stop mastering the art of selective justice!!!”
