President Rodrigo Duterte did not see any advantage in condoling with the parents and kin of 17-year old Kian delos Santos who was killed by Caloocan City cops carrying out his bloody war on drugs.
“Si Pia (Ranada) interesado niyan magtanong sa Rappler. Pupunta ka ba doon? Sabi ko, ‘No, I will not visit the wake’. Kasi pumunta raw si Vice President. Good. Sana isinali na lang niya ‘yung pangalan ko kasi nasa gobyerno naman kaming dalawa,” said in an after dinner interview with select reporters from Malacanang Monday night.
“Ganito ‘yan eh. It is pregnant with so many suppositions. One is that, ‘Look, Duterte went there maybe to apologize kasi totoo ‘yung talagang nangyari’. Then, I would be putting so much pressure on the police. Mataranta na sila niyan kasi ganun. ‘Kaya o — siguro nanghingi ng tawad si Duterte’,” said Duterte.
On Sunday morning, Robredo visited the wake of delos Santos who was caught in a CCTV footage being dragged by two cops from his family’s sari-sari store last Wednesday.
Delos Santos was found dead a few hours later in a dark street corner with a gun and two sachets of shabu. The police claimed he resisted arrest or “nanlaban” in police lingo but most politikos and the general public believed it was cold-blooded murder by cops carrying out Duterte’s order to the extreme.
Aside from Robredo, other personalities who attended the wake of delos Santos were former Vice President Jojo Binay, Senators Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino, and Public Attorney Office Chief Persida Acosta.
