Let her be: Duterte won’t fire Mocha Uson despite ‘pepedederalismo’ scandal- Palace
President Rodrigo Duterte will not let Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson go or ask her to apologize for making a mockery out of federalism in a video, Malacañang said Tuesday (August 7).
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that Duterte already saw the viral video in which Uson coaxed blogger Drew Olivar to dance to a suggestive jingle on federalism.
“He wasn’t laughing. He was… As I said, he was cool. It’s freedom of expression,” Roque said.
There was no word from Duterte, however, that Uson should quit or even apologize.
“I guess what the President said is, ‘She said that.’ Let it be,’” Roque said.
The Palace official said Uson can also continue posting whatever she wants on her blog because she’s doing in it her “personal capacity.”
“She can do anything and everything on her blog,” he said.
Uson drew flak from politikos and netizens alike for urging Olivar to dance to his self-made jingle on federalism, which mentioned the words “pepe” and “dede.”
“Pepe” is the Filipino slang term for vagina while “dede” is used to refer to a woman’s breasts.
While Duterte does not approve of Uson’s antics, Roque said the Palace is hopeful that the video will spark livelier discussions on federalism.
“Bagamat hindi kami sang-ayon doon sa pamamaraan, eh talagang naging kontrobersyal ngayon ang pederalismo. So ang hamon ngayon is, how do you translate this controversy into something positive for federalism?” he asked.
