The government is standing firmly by its claim that a Chinese boat rammed a Filipino vessel and abandoned its crew in the West Philippine Sea despite a denial from China.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said China was free to state its position but he prefers to believe the military’s word about the ramming of the Filipino fishing vessel.

“Interesting. That’s China’s take and it is a free world; it can say anything it wants. We say what we want because it is a free world for us too; but in our case we speak from the law of the sea. But still everyone’s free,” he tweeted.

“I believe in our Armed Forces; in its intelligence and integrity not to mention courage; for lacking those qualities I don’t believe media. So ramming it is,” he said.
