Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is opposed to any postponement or cancellation of the country’s elections.

Locsin, a lawyer, said any poll cancellation is considered an act of treason.

The former Makati lawmaker was reacting to an ABS-CBN tweet that Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo reportedly called for the postponement of the 2022 elections due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“You don’t cancel elections for any reason. That’s treason,” Locsin tweeted on Sept. 24.

Locsin said the upcoming national and local elections must proceed as scheduled as part of the country’s democratic process.

“We are a democracy or a shet slave colony. Hold elections period,” he said.

“Those brave to stand in line & vote—even if only 12—decide the next President. Elections=democracy or Fuck U. You fucking shet,” he said.

The Pampanga solon, son of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, earlier asked the Commission on Elections to consider deferring the 2022 elections. Arroyo reportedly said the people were scared of the coronavirus outbreak.

Comelec chair Sheriff Abas reportedly told Arroyo such a decision is up to Congress, not the poll body.

The Filipino electorate is set to vote for a new president, set of lawmakers and other local officials in the 2022 elections. President Duterte will end his six-year term on June 2022.
