Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is not amenable to the proposed joint Philippine-China investigation into the sinking of a Filipino fishing boat by a Chinese vessel off Recto Bank.

“There cannot be a joint investigation. First principle of justice: no one can be judge of his own case,” Locsin tweeted.

Locsin preferred a separate investigation on the incident instead of joint investigation to prevent encroaching on each other’s sovereignty.

“A joint investigation trenches on each other’s sovereignty. So separate investigations by each side; differences discussed by the two sides. If both sides satisfied, each side issues its conclusions hopefully the same. That fosters better bilateral relations,” he said.
