President Rodrigo Duterte is not expected to attend the commemoration of the EDSA People Power celebration on February 24, based on the official program released by Malacañang.
The guest of honor identified in the document was just Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
Meanwhile, the other high ranking administration officials expected to attend the event at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon city are only Presidential Consultant on Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
Compared to previous stellar celebrations of the People Power Revolution, Malacañang said the 31st commemoration of the event will be low-key, with a budget of only P1 million.
Duterte has made no secret of his admiration for dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who was deposed in the popular bloodless uprising.
He has called Marcos the “greatest president” the Philippines has had, and allowed his remains to be transferred to the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Based on the program for the People Power commemoration, there will be an awarding ceremony for the military, religious and Filipino people, as well as performance numbers by select artists.
