Communications Secretary Mocha Uson slammed Senator Grace Poe for not considering granting emergency powers to President Rodrigo Duterte as urgent, despite the senator’s appeal to the President to certify it as such.
Poe previously said she doubts that the emergency powers bill, aimed at solving traffic in Metro Manila, would be passed within the year, as it is not certified as urgent by the administration.
“Sino dito po sa inyo ang hindi natratrapik??? Kay Sen Poe (sic) kasi hindi pa priority ang emergency powers ng hinihingi ng DOTr (Department of Transportation),” Uson said in a Facebook post. “Baka kasi po ako lang ang natratrapik. Lumilipad kaya kotse ni Sen Poe?”
The Duterte administration has not certified the emergency powers bill as urgent, but despite this, the Senate has been conducting continuous interpellations on it, Poe said.
Congress granting Duterte emergency powers is seen as one of the solutions to the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila.
Currently, the Senate is taking the lead in discussions on emergency powers, with their version of the bill already on second reading, nearing the end of the period of interpellations.
The House of Representatives, on the other hand, has not yet passed the bill on second reading.
