Mabuti naman! Trillanes welcomes Calida, De Castro refusal of Ombudsman nomination
The public can heave a sigh of relief on the reported decision of Supreme Court Associate Justice Teresita de Castro and Solicitor General Jose Calida declining their nomination for Ombudsman post, Sen. Antonio Trillanes on Friday said.
“Mabuti naman,” Trillanes said when asked for his reaction on this matter.
The senator said it was “big news” that De Castro and Calida opted not to consider the post set to be vacated on July 26 by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
“Sa akin malaking bagay ‘yan sa ating bansa na hindi nag-apply itong si Calida dahil imagine nyo ‘yan kung papano nya bababuyin ‘yung Ombudsman as an institution,” he said.
Calida filed the quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court that led to the ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
A staunch critic of the Duterte administration, Trillanes said he also does not consider De Castro who is one of the harshest critics of Sereno, a good choice as Morales’ successor.
“Eh hindi nga nya ginawa ng maayos yung pagiging associate justice nya sa SC mag-aambisyon pa sya sa Ombudsman. So buti ‘yan. Those are positive developments,” the senator said.
