Local chief executives in the National Capital Region should review the implementation of the Oplan Metro Yakal in anticipation of the so-called the “Big One” killer earthquake, administration senatorial bet Francis Tolentino said.
Tolentino’s statement came following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that jolted Central Luzon and nearby regions last Monday.
Tolentino said it would best for the Metro Manila mayors to take a look back how Oplan Metro Yakal works which he spearheaded in 2015 when he was still chairman of the Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) in preparation of 7.2 magnitude earthquake which experts believed can originate from the Marikina Valley Fault System, particularly the West Valley fault line.
“For Metro Manilans and the mayors… take a look at Oplan Metro Yakal which we devised in 2015. It is still relevant given the recent seismic activities,” saad ni Tolentino.
Last Monday, Tolentino secretly went to Porac, Pampanga as a volunteer to aid rescue workers with technical gadgets that were used in the search, rescue, and retrieval operations along the rubbles of the four-storey Chuzon Supermarket which instantly collapsed right after the Central Luzon quake.
Oplan Metro Yakal details the protocols and procedures that would take place in the event of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hits the the nation’s seat of government.
