Ano ba talaga Gloria? Duterte to meet congressional leaders amid budget impasse

President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to meet with leaders of both houses of Congress Tuesday evening to resolve issues hounding the 2019 national budget.
“I think they will be settled. They will be settled, kasi alam nila that any reenacted budget will affect the operations of the government. Maraming maaapektuhan eh, kaya alam naman nila iyon, kaya siguro—that’s why they have by themselves initiated this dialogue,” his spokesman Salvador Panelo told reporters.
The meeting came a day after Duterte announced he would not sign a budget that is “illegal.”
Panelo said the chief executive will serve as a “moderator” between members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, who have been squabbling over pork allocations and budget realignments.
“You know the style of the President – he listens. He listens and let the protagonists settle among themselves – kumbaga, moderator lang siya,” said the official.
“Makikinig lang iyon. Baka he just—I’m just speculating, he may have brought the two together just so they can talk and discuss,” he added.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III, House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senators Loren Legarda, and House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya are expected to join the meeting.
