Mag-sorry kayo sa amin! Alejano tells PH gov’t to demand apology from China
Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano said the Philippines deserves an apology from China following the latest shooing of Filipino fishermen at the disputed Spratly Islands.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the aggressive acts of [the] Chinese Coastguard by preventing and firing warning shots to our fishermen off Union Bank in the Spratlys which is well within our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ),” opposition solon Alejano said Thursday, April 20.
The EEZ refers to the area 200 nautical miles from the coast of a country that’s still considered part of its territory.
“I further demand that the country through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) which is the alter ego of the President to file a strong diplomatic protest against China and demand explanation and apology to the country,” said Alejano.
The rebel soldier-turned-politiko added: “Once and for all let us assert our rights by concrete actions on the ground. Otherwise, other countries particularly China will continue to abuse and disrespect us as a country.”
Earlier, Alejano castigated President Rodrigo Duterte for his purported soft stance on the country’s maritime claims, especially against China.
Alejano is the first solon to file an impeachment complaint against Duterte.
