Maganda nga, nagtanggal pa ako ng hood! Pacquiao shrugs off criticism on taped lighting of SEA Games cauldron
Senator Manny Pacquiao isn’t affected at all by the criticism over the taped lighting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games cauldron, which was broadcast during the opening ceremonies last week.
In a radio interview Saturday (December 7), Pacquiao said he liked how his participation in the event turned out.
“Maganda ang intro eh. May patanggal-tanggal pa [ako] ng hood,” he said.
The video of the cauldron’s lighting showed Pacquiao running towards the cauldron at New Clark City amid a cheering crowd. Upon reaching the cauldron, the senator handed the torch over to bemedalled boxer Nesthy Petecio, who then pointed it towards the cauldron’s base.
The cauldron subsequently lit up and a fireworks display at New Clark City followed.
Pacquiao echoed the SEA Games organizers’ statement that the lighting of the cauldron had to be taped because of the threat of Typhoon Tisoy.
“Pag nagkaroon ng aberya, mapapahiya tayo. So sinigurado nating mas maganda at totoo namang maganda ang kinalabasan,” he said.
Pacquiao confirmed he was nowhere near Tarlac when the opening ceremonies took place on November 30.
