Taguig Rep. Alan Cayetano has apologized to his staff for not saying goodbye from office personally just minutes after 186 representatives voted to kick him out and elect Marinduque Rep. Lord Velasco as Speaker on Tuesday, October 13.
Cayetano was at his Taguig home while Velasco and his allies were in Batasan to ease him out of power after refusing to honor a term-sharing deal, brokered by President Rodrigo Duterte, to stay only as Speaker for 15 months or until October 14. Cayetano stalled the handover and even derailed the passage of the 2021 budget so that he could just celebrate his 50th birthday as Speaker on October 29.
“Sa mga staff ko, I am sorry I was not able to talk to you personally. Medyo magbalot-balot na kayo d’yan sa opisina para walang masabi saatin,” said Cayetano on Facebook.
“We will be OK. We will convert our staff to a charitable group and continue to help our people. Hindi tayo magiging balakid,” he added.
