President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to foster solidarity as the country welcomes 2018.
In his New Year’s message Sunday (December 31), Duterte said the Philippines is facing many trials and challenges.
“Corruption, criminality, illegal drugs and terrorism have impeded our progress in the past year. However, I remain hopeful that our resilience will enable us to overcome and rise above these challenges as one nation,” he said.
Duterte urged Filipinos to welcome 2018 “with a glimmer of hope” and be determined in achieving the goal of a better future for the country.
A Social Weather Stations survey conducted this month showed a record high of 96 percent of Filipinos are welcoming the new year filled with hope.
