In the “next couple of weeks,” President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit the country’s top tourist destinations to boost the industry.
Duterte will visit popular island destinations in the Visayas, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
“Boracay, Cebu, Bohol are part of the initial list. All major islands will be covered,” said Tourism Undersecretary Art Boncato in a media briefing Monday.
“We want to showcase the sites and attractions that are very popular among our markets. Hindi lamang popular sa mga foreign markets but popular also for the domestic markets. Bohol, Cebu and Boracay these coastal destinations. Maaaring ipapakita natin dito ang pinakasikat na beaches at saka activities na nagbibigay ng mga unique experiences sa mga turista,” Boncato added.
The DOT official said that Duterte may also visit local communities in the said provinces.
“Important ang role ng local communities sa turismo dahil sila ang nagbibigay ng sources of pangangailangan ng industrya. Sila din ang nagbibigay ng uniqueness sa experience ng mga bisita sa Pilipinas,” he also said.
The President earlier encouraged Filipinos to travel around the Philippines, assuring the country is safe despite the coronavirus outbreak.
