Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) senatorial bet Jiggy Manicad urged residents of Metro Manila to properly conserve water to further extend the irrigation supply for farmers in rural areas.

Manicad said every drop of water being conserved would be a big help for farmers heavily relying on irrigation for their crops due to the dry spell brought by El Niño.

The former broadcast journalist stressed that although he understands recreational water sports will be a big demand this summer, Manicad believed that it would be better if it would stop temporarily until the water supply finally normalizes.

Manicad said one of his priority legislation given the chance this May 13 polls is to file a measure which seeks to create of a new government agency that shall take the lead in the proper management, protection and conservation of water resources in the country.

The proposed agency, according to Manicad, will also focus not only in the funding of research and development but as well in procurement of facilities and equipment for more advanced treatment and recycling of water.
