Magulang sa negosyo! Duterte: Ayalas ain’t Pinoys, MVP Filipino but doesn’t have a soul
President Rodrigo Duterte has lashed out at the Ayalas and businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan over the supposedly lopsided deals their water companies have with the government.
Duterte accused the Ayalas and Pangilinan of “screwing” Filipinos Tuesday (December 4) through the concession agreement that Manila Water and Maynilad inked with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in 1997.
“When I saw the contract, sabi ko, p***** i**** ‘to. They are screwing us and they’re screwing us all the way. Sila ang distributor, atin ang tubig. In the contract, the water is categorized not as a natural resource but as a commodity,” he said in a speech during the oath-taking of newly appointed government officials in Malacañang.
Duterte insinuated that the Ayalas, who own Manila Water, and Pangilinan, whose company has a stake in Maynilad, are unpatriotic.
“Ganito ‘yan, ang tubig atin. Maraming tubig. Ang problema, binigay natin sa mga torpeng hindi nga Pilipino halos o Pilipino man, walang kaluluwa. ‘Yang Manila Water pati Maynilad, kay Pangilinan pati kay Ayala,” he said.
Duterte slammed the businessmen after a Singapore-based arbitral court ruled in Manila Water’s favor and ordered the government to pay it P7.4 billion for losses it incurred when MWSS rejected its rate hike petition in 2015.
He said the concession agreement was crafted to favor only the water concessionaires at the government’s expense.
“We cannot raise or lower the price of water in this country. If we do that, they will sue us and for interference and with — they go to — to file the arbitration. Talo talaga tayo. Eh puro sila ‘yun eh. Kita mo ang kawalang hiyaan ng tao,” Duterte said.
