Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco may have discouraged presidential son, Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, from supporting his speakership bid because of his wife.
A source told Politiko that Pulong was outraged after seeing Velasco’s wife, Wen, glaring at his father during the dinner he hosted for neophyte lawmakers inside Malacañang compound on June 18.
The source said Wen appeared to be dismayed at President Rodrigo Duterte after he told lawmakers at the party that he would stay neutral in the speakership race.
Pulong was reportedly angry over the Velascos’ sense of entitlement, with Wen appeared to be expecting the President will endorse her husband as the next Speaker.
Following the dinner, Pulong was spotted in Davao City with Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, one of Velasco’s rivals in the speakership race.
Could Pulong have shifted his support to Romualdez after Wen’s act? All eyes will be on who the presidential son will vote for Speaker when the 18th Congress opens on July 22.
