Supreme Court (SC) Spokesman Brian Hosaka has assured that all courts nationwide will process bail amid the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) threat.
Hosaka made the assurance after Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta issued a directive on Friday (March 20) which ordered the closure of all courts nationwide starting Monday (March 23).
In the directive, Peralta said magistrates and their staff “shall only go to their courts once it has been determined that an urgent matter has to be acted upon.”
“The processing of Bail was identified as an urgent matter under Admin Circular 31-2020,” Hosaka said.
“We cannot over emphasize that and assure the public that the Judiciary will continue to operate even in times of crisis,” he added.
The government previously warned the public that those violating measures to contain the virus can be arrested and charged.
