Malabo sila! Palace hits ‘questionable’ Rappler report on Jovie Espenido
By Prince Golez
Malacañang called a Rappler story that controversial cop Lieutenant Colonel Jovie Espenido who led the 2017 raid that resulted in the death of Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. was in President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug list “questionable.”
Rappler reported Wednesday that “two police generals” confirmed the inclusion of Espenido in the narco-list. The police officer was recently relieved from his post as deputy for operations and drug enforcement unit chief of the Bacolod City Police Office.
“Malabo yun lalo na galing sa Rappler,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo told reporters.
But, Panelo said Duterte “will investigate” if indeed Espenido’s name was in that list.
“Basta may Rappler, palaging questionable. But, siyempre, if that is officially received by the Office of the President, the President will investigate,” he also said.
In 2018, Duterte banned the news website and its journalists from entering Palace grounds and covering his events, saying their reports were “twisted.”
