Malacañang defended on Friday the reappointment of Ronald Cardema to the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Interior Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya earlier confirmed that Cardema, who previously held the NYC top post, is back as NYC commissioner.

Malacañang, however, has yet to release his appointment paper.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque cited presidential prerogative in the appointment of Cardema, whose substitution bid to become the first nominee of the Duterte Youth Party-List was disqualified by the Commission on Elections last year.

“Ang mga presidential appointments ay the sole and exclusive prerogative of the Presidente,” Roque said during his online press briefing.

“Sang ayon sa Saligang Batas, wala pong kahit sino ang pupwedeng mag-kwestyon sa mga ganyang appointment. Nasa pleasure na yan ng Presidente,” he added.

Cardema was appointed as chairperson of the NYC in 2018.
