Malayo sa bahay! BuCor assures Muntinlupa residents’ safety after female inmates test positive for COVID-19
The isolation facility for inmates with COVID-19 at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City is safe for the community living around the area, assured Bureau of Corrections spokesperson Gabrielle Chaclag.
“Ito naman po ay very secure, far from the residents and far from the prison cells,” said Chaclag during an interview on CNN Philippines.
Chaclag made the assurance after Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnide expressed disapproval over the BuCor’s decision to transfer 18 female inmates of the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) who have been infected with COVID-19.
“Rest assured that lahat po ng Muntinlupa residents ay safe at hindi po sila affected dito sa pag transfer,” the BuCor spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa City Council passed a resolution Thursday (April 23) to express their opposition to the transfer of 18 female inmates with COVID-19.
“The resolution backs the position of Mayor Jaime Fresnedi who vehemently protested and opposed the transfer of the prisoners last April 21, saying it was done without the knowledge of the city government,” it said in a statement.
