Newly appointed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag has assured that he is willing to lay down his life in order to bring change in the corrupt prison system.

“Ako at ang aking mga kasama ay handang tumupad sa tungkuling ito kahit kapalit pa nito ang aming buhay,” said Bantag during the recent assumption command ceremony this week.

“Ibalik natin ang kaayusan sa ating kawanihan, ang paggalang ng taong bayan at ang pagtitiwala nila sa ating kakayanan,” he urged BuCor officials and personnel.

Otherwise, Bantag advised them to leave because the BuCor has no place for them.

“Umalis na kayo,” he reiterated.

Bantag, a former official of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, recounted he did not think twice when the BuCor post was offered to him by President Rodrigo Duterte.
