Manchurian spox? Ping accuses Panelo of using Malacanang pulpit to spout Chinese propaganda
Senator Ping Lacson is disappointed that Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo is not only defending China, the “perceived” enemy to most Pinoys, but is also acting as its spokesperson and using Malacanang to spread its propaganda.
“From Chinese embassy defense counsel to spokesman? Has the presidential spokesman switched from Chinese embassy defense counsel to spokesman?” asked Lacson on Twitter.
Lacson was reacting to Panelo’s statement relaying Chinese AmbassadorZhao Jianhua’s reaction to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana’s warning that the thousands of illegal Chinese workers in Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) could be spying for their motherland.
“Ambassador Zhao sent me a text. He said, ‘What if we also think that your overseas workers are also spying on us. What can you say about that?’,” said Panelo in an interview.
Lacson said Panelo went out of line with his statement. “The thing is, the Chinese embassy has its own spokesman who should speak on their behalf because that’s his job. Why would the country’s presidential spokesperson whose salary and other miscellaneous expenses are being paid out of our taxes take on the embassy spokesman’s job?” he said.
