SINDANGAN, Zamboanga del Norte – Award-winning broadcast journalist and senatorial candidate Jiggy Manicad is confident that he will be able to gather more support in the remaining days of the campaign period as Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) on Tuesday launched the Mindanao leg of its campaign.
According to Manicad, Mindanao is undoubtedly considered the bailiwick of the political entity of Mayor Duterte which is instrumental to the landslide victory of her father President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016.
“Undoubtedly andito talaga (sa Mindanao) yung base ng support at nakita natin nung 2016 expectation is kung hindi ganung kalaki, eh malaki pa rin,” said Manicad.
Mindanao has more than 12.6 million voters or around 23 percent of the total voting population based on the figures released by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in 2016.
In the 2016 presidential polls, the Davao City Mayor Duterte won in 22 of of the 27 provinces, as well as 29 out of the 33 cities in Mindanao—securing the region’s 63.9 percent of its voting population.
Manicad said he is hoping that the landslide victory secured by the chief executive in Mindanao during the 2016 polls will be replicated and passed on to the senatorial bets supported by HNP.
“Considerably malaki pa rin yung magiging support dito sa Mindanao at sa Visayas kasi yung Presidente galing Mindanao, and mataas pa rin yung expectations and mataas pa rin yung hopes na talagang nandito yung base of support ng HNP… malaking factor yung mas nakaka konekta sa crowd,” the the former Kapuso broadcaster.
