Former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas is sad and disappointed with his defeat in the senatorial race but remained humbled and honored by the people’s trust and support.

A few hours after the Commission on Elections proclaimed the country’s 12 new winning senators, Roxas took to Twitter to accept poll defeat, saying it was part of life.

“Sorry for the silence. I felt it best and appropriate given the circumstances. Well, we didn’t make it. Disappointing and sad but ganyan talaga ang buhay. I want to thank you all, each and every one of you for all your hard work and support,” he tweeted.

“But most of all, I want to thank you for believing – in me, in our values and principles, and in the idea that we as a people, and the Philippines, are and can be better than where we are, that our future is and can be brighter than our today,” he added.

Roxas also thanked the people who trusted and support him, saying he was “so very humbled and honored to have been in the trenches and frontline with you all.”

Despite defeat in the elections, Roxas rallied his supporters to get strong and continue to fight for the country.

“In this way, we can revive our spirit, and get strong. Our country continues to need us and our best efforts. Mabuhay ang Pilipino at ang Pilipinas,” he said.
