A Liberal Party (LP) solon said the latest statement of Senator Grace Poe only means she is willing to run alongside Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.
Quezon city Representative Jorge “Bolet” Banal said Poe’s statement about her five-hour meeting with President Benigno Aquino III Monday night “bodes well for a Mar-Poe (tandem).”
“I was hopeful, that like most of us, Sen Grace believed in PNoy; her statement confirmed that she does. This bodes well not just for “Mar Poe” but more importantly for Daang Matuwid and for our country,” said Banal, who is LP parliamentary caucus deputy chair for National Capital Region.
He said it is still premature, though, to say Aquino has secured a Roxas-Poe tandem in 2016 to compete that of the presidential bid of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
“(It is still) premature to celebrate though, because the foes of daang matuwid are bent on sowing divisiveness,” Banal said.
“Let’s all encourage PNoy and his team, especially Secretary Mar and Senator Grace, to stay together and to continue joining forces in 2016 and beyond. Hindi pa tapos ang laban,” he added.
Aquino is said to be meeting with Poe and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero as potential running mates of Roxas, who is unpopular in the surveys. Aquino supposedly wanted Poe, who is leading the voters preference polls, to run as Vice President with and add sheen to Roxas.
In a statement Monday, Poe said she understood the predicament of the President in selecting a successor, and that she is willing to help the administration for the country’s welfare.
“The President and I talked for about five hours. I could sense the very difficult position PNoy is in right now. I understand & sympathize with his predicament and situation… In the end, we both agreed to continue, in whatever capacity, striving and working for our countrymen and for the betterment of our children’s future,” Poe said.
