Former Interior Undersecretary Wencelito Andanar has passed away, his son confirmed Monday.
He was 73 years old.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said his “idol” and father died of liver cancer at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center this morning.
“Papa was a man of service, having dedicated his professional years as a public servant within different government agencies,” the younger Andanar said in a statement.
“I know I speak for many when I say that we have lost not just a remarkable civil servant but a pillar in our lives. He may no longer be with us, but his deeds and his legacy will continue to live on in our hearts,” he added.
In 2018, Wincelito was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as his special envoy to Malaysia.
He also served as undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government during the time of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from 2001 to 2007.
“Paalam, Papa! Thank you for being a brother, a father, a confidant, and a friend. You had a life well-lived. You are a lifelong example of leadership and selflessness. When I meet you in the sun, I shall tell you much,” the PCOO chief said.
