Senator Risa Hontiveros advised President Rodrigo Duterte Saturday (September 7) to check a dictionary after he described former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon as “upright.”

Hontiveros tweeted that Faeldon is far from being upright considering the most recent controversy he was involved in at the BuCor.

“Kung ‘upright’ sila, ‘di niyo sila sinibak sa pwesto. ‘Upright’ ba ang nagpakawala ng mga Chinese druglords at muntik na ng isang unrepentant rapist-murderer? Please get hold of a dictionary, & look up the definition of ‘upright,'” the senator said.

Duterte said Friday (September 6) that he believes Faeldon is upright despite firing him due to the controversy involving the early release of several heinous crimes convicts due to the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).

“Faeldon tarong na nga tawo [He is an upright person]. I still believe in him,” he said in a speech in Naga City, Cebu.

Duterte credited Faeldon for forcing Mighty Corp. to pay billions of pesos in taxes by informing him about the company’s production of fake cigarette tax stamps.
