Perfect crime: Duterte says Chinese co-depositors crucial in keeping Trillanes deposits secret
Philippine authorities will be unable to determine details of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s supposed offshore bank accounts even though he signed a waiver because they would have to get permission from his Chinese co-depositors, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
In an interview at the Libingan ng mga Bayani Tuesday (September 12), Duterte said the waiver signed by Trillanes is useless.
“Yung lahat ‘yang ano niya… ‘yung lahat ‘yang joint account niya, may partner siya na Chinese. So even if he signs a waiver, if the co-signer does not, walang mangyari niyan. And the bank would never, never name who is the partner,” he explained.
Duterte, who accused Trillanes of having offshore bank accounts, said the government will be unable to get the details of his supposed accounts even if cases are filed against him.
“Pero kung sabihin mo that he has a deposit there, they will say yes. He is a depository here — depositor, rather… But the account number — And even if he signs, lahat ng co-signer niya puro Instik. Kaya wala siyang — Kung hindi mag-pirma ‘yung isa, wala,” he said.
“Pero, he has. He’s the one lying. Marunong eh. He has perfected the art of crime,” he added.
The President, however, said he “definitely” has information that Trillanes deposits less than P500,000 in his offshore bank accounts.
He said he got the information on the senator’s supposedly hidden bank accounts from a foreign government and will reveal details about it soon.
