Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas should be thrown in jail for allegedly violating the quarantine rules, Gabriela party list group said Wednesday.

The group has denounced Sinas for holding a birthday party despite the strict lockdown regulations, including a ban on large gathering.

“NCRPO Chief Sinas’ bold bday bash a brazen mockery of arrested quarantine violators, trapped hungry families,” Gabriela tweeted.

“Ironically, it was Sinas who insisted that the 10 relief workers in Marikina should be jailed & punished. Now, he is defending his party attended by dozens of police,” it added.

Sinas has apologized for his birthday party, pointing to his subordinates for the spontaneous gathering last May 8 at the NCRPO headquarters. He said it was not his intention to disobey the quarantine protocols.

Photos of the birthday celebration posted on the NCRPO on Facebook has drawn online fury for skirting the rule on the ban on large gatherings during hte enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila. Some guests allegedly ignored physical distancing, failed to wear masks and violated the liquor ban.

“Mass testing ang panawagan ng mamamayan sa gobyerno, hindi mass gathering,” Gabriela said.

“NCRPO Chief Sinas should immediately take a leave pending investigation of his violation of the Disease Surveillance Act, the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and the liquor ban,” it said.

The group said asking Sinas to go on leave is “not just about delicadeza.”

“This is about holding those who are supposedly enforcing the law accountable to the same set of rules being forced down the throats of poor Filipinos,” eh said.
