Masyado kasing epal! Cayetano’s minions sabotage OWWA’s efforts for OFWs
Efforts of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to improve the lives of Filipino workers in Kuwait suddenly went down the drain due to the Department of Foreign Affairs’ highly publicized rescue mission in the Gulf state.
Citing information from OWWA Deputy Administrator Arnell Ignacio, abogado Bruce Rivera said OWWA has been talking to Kuwaiti employers over the past few weeks to treat Filipino workers better.
The Kuwaiti employers agreed by financing an “academy” for Filipino workers and other infrastructure projects for them.
The video Rivera was referring to was the footage shot by DFA officials of the rescue mission for an abused Filipina maid.
The release of the video angered the Kuwaiti government, which accused the DFA of carrying out the rescue without proper coordination with the police.
Rivera said it was him who informed Ignacio that the video was shared by DFA officials even before the media GMA News broadcasted it.
The diplomatic row between the Philippines and Kuwait has led to the expulsion of Philippine Ambassador Renato Villa from the Gulf state and his declaration as a persona non grata.
The DFA also confirmed that Kuwait issued arrest warrants for three Filipino diplomats, while four Filipino hires are in detention over the rescue mission.
