Davao City Mayor and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) chairperson Sara Duterte warned the proposed term-sharing for the speakership might end to another leadership scuffle in the House of Representatives.
In a statement last Friday, Mayor Duterte said the House leadership will be marred with instability the moment its members heeded to the term-sharing proposal being lobbied by the camp of Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
“In a term sharing situation, the House of Representatives will be racked with unseating the incumbent Speaker,” said Mayor Duterte.
She added that “deceit, dissent, and distrust” will hound the four-corners of the chamber and its members if the term-sharing being pushed by supporters of the Taguig-Pateros solon will push through.
The President’s daughter, who was the supposed architect of the successful 2018 House coup that led to the ouster of former House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, said Hugpong party will definitely not support those who are pushing for the term-sharing since “it will slow down the last three years of the administration of President Duterte.”
Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza earlier disclosed that some economic managers, including Finance Sec. Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez, Public Works Sec. Mark Villar, and Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, were allegedly meddling in the selection of the House Speaker by rootting for Cayetano.
Dominguez already the dismissed the accusations made by Atienza.
