Despite the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Bantag said the country’s prison facilities could help in this problem.

Bantag said persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been making face masks in the prison facilities.

“Tinuruan silang gumagawa ng facemask tapos yung ginagawa nilang yun ipapamahagi rin nila sa kapwa nila PDL,” he cited in his Facebook message.

“Ngayon kung marami silang ma-produce e di ipamahagi na rin sa labas,” he pointed out.

Asside from this, Bantag said the BuCor has been implementing measures to keep its prisons safe from the deadly 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Masasabi natin sa ngayon na ito ay COVID-free pa dahil wala pa tayo natatanggap na mga reports galing sa mga pitong penal farms,” Bantag boasted.
