May gusot pa? Guevarra, Ano postpone signing of revised GCTA IRR
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Ano have decided to postpone the signing of the revised implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law.
Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said Monday’s (Sept. 16) signing of the revised IRR has been “held in abeyance.”
“New schedule to be announced,” he said.
Instead, he said Guevarra and Ano have decided to meet on Monday with the committee which made the draft revised IRR.
“Justice Secretary Guevarra and Interior and Local Government Secretary Ano have asked to meet the members of the DOJ-DILG Joint Review Committee regarding the recommendations they submitted,” Perete said.
What was revised was the IRR of Republic Act 10592, the law which increased the grant of GCTAs to inmates which allowed their earlier release.
However, a review of the IRR was made following concerns that many undeserving inmates have benefited from it.
