May sumabit na naman! Duterte hints at firing Corporate Counsel, DPWH Asec
President Rodrigo Duterte has hinted about firing two government officials again over allegations of corruption.
Duterte dropped details about the government officials who may be next on the chopping block Saturday (May 18) as he reiterated his disdain for corruption and stealing.
“Maybe I’ll fire the Corporate Council tomorrow. I made the DPWH assistant secretary resign. He’s my my brod in law school, but I made him resign too,” he said at the ceremonial start of the Alegria Oilfield’s oil and gas production in Cebu.
Duterte warned government officials against engaging in corrupt activities, saying he will not hesitate to fire anyone.
“When I hired you, you already knew my character. I told you, ‘Don’t. Don’t be corrupt because corruption is not a vice of mine,’” he said.
Rudolf Philip Jurado heads the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel, an attached agency of the Department of Justice.
Jurado, brother of retired Sandiganbayan Justice Roland Jurado, used to be an abogado for the group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).
He also represented actors Robin Padilla and Joey Marquez in some controversial cases.
Duterte has repeatedly warned government officials that he will fire them over a “whiff of corruption.”
Broadcaster Ramon Tulfo recently revealed that Duterte sacked his sister, Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo Teo, over the Department of Tourism’s controversial P60-million payment to a media company owned by Ben Tulfo for the airing of its ads.
