Medialdea defends Duterte’s Hong Kong trip: Wala ba siyang karapatang magpahinga?
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has defended President Rodrigo Duterte’s unscheduled Hong Kong trip with his family amid concern over his health and the rising inflation.
“He [Duterte] has been working since June 2016. Can they not allow him a weekend break?” Medialdea said in a text message Sunday (October 7).
Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go confirmed Saturday (October 6) that Duterte went to Hong Kong with his long time partner, Honeylet Avanceña, and their daughter Veronica or Kitty, after photos of them inside a clothing store in Causeway Bay appeared in a blog.
Malacañang did not disclose any details about Duterte’s Hong Kong trip before Go posted photos of the President.
Some netizens criticized Duterte for taking a short vacation overseas, saying he spent public funds to rest while Filipinos had to deal with rising inflation.
The President made the trip to Hong kong just days after he disclosed going to Cardinal Santos Medical Center for medical tests.
