President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the Omnibus Bio-Medical Systems Inc for the alleged overpricing of testing kits bought by the government in line with its response efforts to curb the impact of the coronavirus disease.
“NBI should study the matter very, very carefully kasi alam mo itong mga p*t*n*i*a*g negosyanteng ‘to, whether it’s really an issue of humanity and their greed, ‘yung hoarding, it’s part of the business practices which you may call not even obnoxious, it’s repulsive to the human mind when you start to think about it,” Duterte said in a late night briefing on Monday.
Earlier, House Senior Minority Leader Janet Garin, also former secretary of the Department of Health, claimed that a “very enterprising” couple had been hoarding and overpricing COVID testing kits and machines.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III was also accused of centralizing all the purchases of medical equipment through the Omnibus Corporation, a local distributor of Sansure Biotech, which is reportedly owned by couple Van William and Emily Co.
During the meeting with the President, Duque denied knowing the Cos. “I do not know these two personalities, ito pong Co,” the health chief said.
