Mike Arroyo to Trillanes: Man up you coward!
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo on Tuesday (September 4) dared embattled Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to submit himself to authorities following the revocation of the amnesty given to him in 2010.
In his Facebook post, Arroyo called Trillanes a “coward” after deciding to be placed under Senate custody instead of surrendering to the members of the arresting team from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Trillanes, man up you coward” said Arroyo in his post.
Arroyo said that “instead of hiding in the Senate,” Trillanes should just “surrender to the authorities and prepare for your defense.”
Trillanes together with other Magdalo soldiers staged a failed coup against Arroyo’s wife, former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo during the Oakwood Munity in July 2003.
The mutiny which happened at the heart of the Makati Central Business District lasted for less than 24 hours only and was immediately suppressed by forces of the Arroyo Administration without any bloodshed.
Trillanes pulled a dramatic electoral upset and was elected senator in 2007 despite being in detention. Six months after his election, Trillanes together with then Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, detained Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon and several other detained rebel soldiers stage another unsuccessful power play against the Arroyo Administration during the Manila Peninsula siege.
The then neophyte Senator and other co-conspirators were forcibly extracted by members of the PNP Special Action Force (SAF) from the said five-star hotel after the incident.
In 2010, the new Aquino administration granted Trillanes and his other co-conspirators with amnesty.
