Newly resigned Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson is not the only Duterte Diehard Supporter (DDS) who’s eyeing a seat in Congress next year.
Politiko has learned that RJ Nieto, who’s behind the blog Thinking Pinoy, also plans to run as congressman in the 2019 elections.
The two personalities of the DDS movement are being recruited as nominees of two party-lists representing overseas Filipino workers: ACTS-OFW and OFW Family Club.
ACTS-OFW, which is currently represented in Congress by Congressman Aniceto “John” Bertiz, plans to field Uson as its first nominee.
Nieto, meanwhile, is in talks with OFW Family Club about becoming its first nominee in the party-list race.
Since both ACTS-OFW and OFW Family Club have secured seats in the current and past Congress, it’s likely they will win the 2019 race— especially with the social media clout commanded by Uson and Nieto.
OFW Family Club was represented in the 16th Congress by Congressman Roy Señeres, who died in February 2016.
Uson said she was open to running for either Senate or Congress after announcing her resignation Wednesday (October 3).
She often joins President Rodrigo Duterte on his overseas trips, the most recent being Israel and Jordan.
Uson’s last official trip was to New York, where she joined Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano at the United Nations General Assembly.
Nieto, meanwhile, worked as a consultant at the Department of Foreign Affairs for three months last year.
