Party-list Cong. Jericho Nograles (Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta) is alarmed that around 800 heinous crime convicts were released since Director General Nicanor Faeldon took the helm of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCoR) in 2018.
In an interview with radio DZBB, Nograles disclosed that 816 inmates form the national penitentiary were released through the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) provision under Republic Act 10592 from the period January to August 2019.
“Ang lumalabas, 800 convicts ang pinalabas under the Bureau of Corrections under dito kay Director Faeldon,” said Nograles.
Nograles stressed that the figure is about 42 percent of the total 1,914 heinous crime convicts from the national penitentiary released from 2014 up to August 2019.
“Ang top 2 na pinakawalan, rapists and murderers,” said Nograles.
Nograles earlier revealed that a total of 22,049 inmates from various penal centers in the country have been released using the GCTA provision of the law since it was enacted in 2013.
From January to August 2019 alone, a total of 3,746 inmates have benefitted under Faeldon’s watch and its about to exceed the 3,932 released in 2018 until the botched released of convicted Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio has called the attention of the public.
He added 48 inmates found were guilty of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act have also benefitted from using the GCTA provision.
Senator Panfilo Lacson earlier said that at least four high-profile convicted Chinese drug lords were released from NBP last June. The Chinese nationals were inmates inside NBP’s maximum security compound.
