Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno will be the second head of the judiciary to be impeached, after Renato Corona.

Sereno’s impeachment is already certain even though the House justice committee will only begin hearings on the complaint filed against her.

Sources said the hearings will just be a formality, with the goal being to ridicule and lambast the Chief Justice.

Allies of the administration have already been briefed on how to go about the hearings, so that they will be finished by the deadline set by President Rodrigo Duterte on December 16.

Sereno has said she will not attend the hearings despite the committee’s invitation, instead letting her legal team defend her.
