The Sangley airport apparently could have been operational years ago to decongest Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) if the former transportation secretary did not ignore an old proposal then.

Senator Panfilo Lacson has revealed that former Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi proposed the upgrade of Sangley airport into an international airport to then Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya but went unnoticed.

“Cavite Ex Gov Maliksi made a similar proposal to ex DOTC Sec Abaya, also a Caviteño to convert Sangley Pt into an international airport at no cost to the govt. He was ignored,” he tweeted.

Lacson meantime welcomed President Duterte’s decision to transfer general aviation or domestic flights to Sangley airport to ease heavily congested NAIA. “Way to go!” he tweeted.
