Nadaan sa sindak! Isidro Consunji to pay back DMCI-Ecoland owners 150% of units’ cost after Duterte’s tirade
DMCI Holdings chairman and president Isidro Consunji will compensate owners of the collapsed Ecoland 4000 condominium building in Davao City 150 percent of what they paid for their units after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to bar his company from building new structures.
We accepted the offer to settle the claims of the homeowners at 150 peercent of acquisition cost. They have a general assembly on January 20,” Consunji said in a text message to CNN Philippines on Saturday (January 11).
Consunji’s statement came barely a day after Duterte slammed him for being “arrogant” over DMCI Holdings’ alleged refusal to pay back Ecoland homeowners whose units were damaged when a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck Davao City in October 2019.
“You were most arrogant do not do that. You will not only lose your funds but also your business, believe me. I have ordered an audit of all your buildings and violations you have committed,” Said Duterte in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Ted Failon.
“You know, if you do not come to terms with the people that you have prejudiced, will not allow you to even construct a building, not even a post,” he added.
DMCI Homes earlier denied any involvement in building Ecoland 4000.
“The company was not involved in the development, design, and construction of the said project,” it said in a statement days after the earthquake.
